Sisterhood Events and Programs
We have meetings every month. Some are Jewish, like our annual Sukkot, Chanuka, Passover seder, and Sisterhood Shabbat. Some are informational, like when we present ballot propositions, or bring in a speaker on controversial topics. Others are purely social, such as our meeting focused on telling our stories. All are fun and include snacks! Click the Meetings & Events button for a detailed list.

Sisterhood provides the snacks, drinks, setup and cleanup for 52 (plus or minus a couple) onegs a year. Bar/Bat Mitzvah families contribute to the cost and Sisterhood volunteers provide the setup and cleanup. If you would be willing to help provide a beautiful oneg presentation for our Temple, either once a month, or on an occasional basis, please contact us using the contact form and let us know!

Sisterhood can provide a low cost luncheon after your child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah for your family and friends. This is not the big schlabang with a DJ and dancing – it’s a low key way to provide a nice meal after the service for your guests. It's particularly good if your child is having a morning service and an evening party, and you need to provide lunch for your guests in between. We also can provide a meal of condolence after a memorial service held at the Temple.

Every year the Seder committee puts on an *amazing* Sisterhood Seder. Our 2019 seder was on April 3. Past themes have included: "Viva Pesach"(2019), "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Seder" (2018), “Exploring Jews in Africa” (2017), “A Journey From Ancient Greece To Hollywood -- Weaving the Story of Jews in Entertainment within our Passover Celebration.” (2016), “Jews in the Far East” (2015), and "the Tastes, Customs, Traditions and Rituals of Sephardic Jews" (2014). Over 100 women join us each Passover as we weave a fascinating story of Jews into our Passover seder.

Ever wish you had a personal secretary to send out birthday wishes, condolence cards or messages of congratulations? Well you do! We call them Tributes. All it takes is an email or phone call to Mel Birken, our Tribute Chair, and your card will be on its way to your recipient. And part of the cost is a donation to Sisterhood, so your friend or relative will get a message that a donation to Sisterhood was made in their honor (or in memory of a relative.)

Sisterhood greatly values investing money in training our leaders. We have a Leadership Training over the summer just for our Sisterhood, and we spend money sending women to the annual Southern California Area day, the bi-annual Fried Leadership conference, and the bi-annual Pacific District convention. These events are all fun as well as being informative and educational. Come to next summer's Area Day and find out!
