Next Sunday's Lunch

5/28/2018

Thanks for RSVPing that you are coming to the Volunteer Recognition Lunch next Sunday.  The fun starts at 10am - and you know that it is at the Temple this year, right?  Of course you do.
Don't forget that we are having a dollar pull - bring 5 ones to have 5 chances to win (or 10 ones and double your chances of winning!)  Bring your checkbook so that you can write a check to be {{Lunch}} next year - everyone who does is entered into a raffle to come to next year's lunch for free.  Of course, we are going to have Chinese and Silent auctions with gift cards, Judaica, books and more.  Not to mention the improv entertainment!  And we think you will like what we have planned to recognize our volunteers.
We're so glad you are coming!  We encourage everyone to bring a friend, a spouse, a parent or child - at $10/person, it's so affordable!  Just let us know and pay at the door.

Financial Secretary                  Diane Levine
The position of Ways & Means is still open - do you know someone who would be willing to step up?  It's actually the easiest position on the Board!  Call us with your ideas on whom we could ask, or to find out more about what is involved.

If you were at last year's May meeting, you know how powerful it was.  Everyone liked it so much that we are doing it again this year, but with different prompts and stimuli.  So it will be the same, but completely different.  Come this Thursday, May 17, 7pm and contribute to our story.

id you make it this far in the email?  Your first reward is finding out that there are photos from the Sisterhood Shabbat on our Sisterhood website - go to tassisterhood.org and click on "Photos".  You can also find them on the Temple website.  Much gratitude to Scott Yolis for providing the photos, and to Aaron for putting them on the Temple website.

And for your second reward, a little humor:

God Will Provide
A young woman brings home her fiance to meet her parents. After
dinner, her mother tells her father to find out about the young
man.
The father invites the fiance to his study for a drink.
"So what are your plans?" the father asks the young man.
"I am a Torah scholar," he replies.
"A Torah scholar.  Hmmm," the father says. "Admirable, but what
will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in,
as she's accustomed to?"
"I will study," the young man replies, "and God will provide for us."
"And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring, such as she
deserves?" asks the father.
"I will concentrate on my studies," the young man replies,
"and God will provide for us."
"And children?" asks the father. "How will you support children?"
"Don't worry, sir.  God will provide," replies the fiance.
The conversation proceeds like this and each time the father
questions the young idealist insists that God will provide.
Later, the mother asks, "How did it go, Honey?"
The father answers, "He has no job and no plans, but the good news is:
He thinks I'm God!

Hope to see you Thursday!

------------------------------------------------------------
On the morning of Rosh Hashana as the congregation was filing into the sanctuary, Rabbi Feldman noticed little Max standing in the foyer of the synagogue staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names with small American flags mounted on either side of it. The six-year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the rabbi walked up, stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, 'Boker tov, Max. '

'Boker tov, Rabbi Feldman,' he replied, still focused on the plaque. ' Rabbi Feldman, what is this?' he said, pointing to the plaque.

The good Rabbi tenderly put his arm around Max's shoulder and said, ' Well son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the services. '

Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Max , in a voice barely audible and trembling with fear asked:,

'Which service, Rabbi, Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur?'
