Ever wish you had a personal secretary to send out birthday wishes, condolence cards or messages of congratulations? Well you do! We call them Tributes. All it takes is an email or phone call to Mel Birken, our Tribute Chair, and your card will be on its way to your recipient. And part of the cost is a donation to Sisterhood, so your friend or relative will get a message that a donation to Sisterhood was made in their honor (or in memory of their loved one.)
To send a tribute send email to <[email protected]> or call (818) 366-2397, and tell Mel to whom you want a card sent and why you want it sent. For example, you could say, "I want a tribute sent to Rabbi Lyf, thanking her for all the good things she did for our Temple for the last 6 months." Tributes cost $4 - less than the cost of a Hallmark card. And so much less effort! Two quick reminders: 1) The end of free shipping on our honey program is July 8. A form is attached for your convenience. If you sent in a honey order already, you will get an email this week verifying your order. 2) The deadline for registering for Area Day is June 28. The online link to register is https://www.wrjpacific.org/southern-california-area-day.html If you want to register but can't make the link work, call one of us and we will make sure you are signed up! If you are thinking, "What is this honey program you speak of? And what is Area Day?" you can read our past emails on these topics on our Sisterhood website. Go to tassisterhood.org and click on "Blog" on the menu. In honor of Rabbi Lyf and her TLC program we went looking for what TLC stands for and this is what we found: Tender Loving Care (of course) Torah, Lunch and Challah (great alternative meaning!) Twisted Loaves Club (another Challah reference) T-Boz, Left Eye, & Chilli (biggest selling female group in music history) The Learning Channel (TV channel originally meant to be about learning) Total Leukocyte Count And wait! That's not all! For a complete list, go to https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/TLC

One of the excellent parts of being part of WRJ and WRJ-Pacific District is the events they put on. The next WRJ Pacific District event is called Area Day. It is a fun-filled day of speakers, workshops, song, and opportunities to meet interesting women. For those willing to lead and improve our Sisterhood, there are leadership training workshops on programing, membership, technology, and marketing. For those who want personal growth, there are workshops on social justice, torah study, and writing a D'var Torah. And for those who just want a fun day, there are workshops on Jewish sensory movement, Jewish Music, a book discussion, and a craft. All Sisterhood Board members should attend, and all Sisterhood members are invited to participate.
Why should you come? 1) it's a lot of fun, 2) it's local, 3) you can learn a lot, and 4) you will meet excellent women from other Sisterhoods. To further encourage participation, our Sisterhood will cover the registration for any TAS Sisterhood member who attends. Area Day is Sunday, July 8, from 9:30-3:30 at Temple Beth Hillel (12326 Riverside Drive, Valley Village). Now that we have convinced you to attend, here's what to do: Complete the registration form at https://suemeyer.wufoo.com/forms/2018-wrj-pd-southern-california-area-day/ You can also find the registration page on our website, tassisterhood.org - click on the Area Day image. Pay the $39 by check or credit card (paying by credit card will cost you an extra $1.50). If you are interested in carpooling, tell us that you are coming. Heck, tell us you are coming even if you are not interested in carpooling. At Area Day we will reimburse you the $39 fee. The $1.50 convenience fee is not reimbursed. When you go to the registration page, you will find that there are two other events on the Saturday before Area Day: a tour at the Skirball, and a Pacific District Friendship Dinner. Both cost extra, and Sisterhood does not cover either of these events. Also the craft workshop is an extra $15, and we don't cover that either. Sisterhood only covers the $39 registration fee. In honor of the Friendship dinner, we have this little gem: How is a friend like a good bra? Hard to find, Supportive, Comfortable, Always lifts you up, Makes you look better, AND ALWAYS CLOSE TO YOUR HEART! Sisterhood's annual honey program has begun! You can express your appreciation for members of our clergy and office staff by purchasing “honey wishes” at $5/wish. One honey jar is given to each clergy and office staff member along with the names of the people who purchased a honey wish for them. Particularly because we have a new Rabbi and a new Director of Education, we encourage you to consider sending honey wishes this year. And this year you can send honey wishes to the entire clergy and staff for only $36!
You can also send a 8oz jar of 100% pure Kosher honey to anyone in the US for $12/jar. Each honey order is accompanied by a personalized gift card with greeting from you and is delivered in time for Erev Rosh Hashanah (September 9, 2018). Ordering honey for your family, friends and business associates is a sweet way to welcome the new year while also supporting Sisterhood. Shipping is free if your order is received by Sunday July 8. After July 8, shipping is $5/jar. An order form is attached. There will also be forms at the Temple in a day or two. We hope you participate in our sweet fundraiser! Today's Volunteer Recognition Lunch was lovely! We installed our board. We paid tribute to all of our volunteers, contributors and supporters. We honored Robyn Blachman as 2018 Woman of the Year for everything she does to support Sisterhood. We were amused by the improv antics of "Spring Chickens." And we had a lot of fun in the process. We made bracelets and necklaces from beads we had earned from volunteering our time, donating money, and supporting Sisterhood in a myriad of ways. It was a enjoyable way to acknowledge the thousands of hours that Sisterhood volunteers put in to make Sisterhood a success.
Photos from the event are posted on our website! Go to tassisterhood.org and click on the Photos menu item. Note that if there is a photo that you would like removed from the website, please let us know and we will take it down. Speaking of volunteering, we still need your help! Calling all cookers, bakers, and delicious dessert makers! If you could provide a dessert for Mah Jongg Tournament on Sunday, June 24 - cookies, brownies, or other finger desserts - your treats would be greatly appreciated. Our Mah Jongg players just love home made treats, and providing them is one of the reasons our tournaments are the best in the valley! If you are available and willing to chip in a dessert, please contact Phyllis Bigelson at [email protected] - or reply to this message and we will forward the message to her. Went looking for dessert humor, and loved this one! |
