Two great programs are coming our way within the next three weeks.
  • First, our March meeting, Thursday, March, 21, 7pm will feature a guest speaker on the topic of Holistic Health: Medical and Recreational Marijuana. For more information go to tassisterhood.org
  • Then, just two weeks later Wednesday, April 3, 6pm we will celebrate Latin American Jews at our Annual Women's Seder, Viva Pesach!. If you haven't already made reservations for the Seder we suggest you sign up today. Seats are filling up quickly and you won't want to miss this event. Click here to view the Seder flyer with registration information.
Because the theme of this year's seder is Latin American Jews, we bring you the story of Fenia Chertkoff de Repetto (1869 - 1927), a feminist, intellectual, educator, political activist, and sculptor. Russian by birth, but because of her political involvements in Russia, she was forced into exile and moved to Switzerland, where she met and married Gabriel Gukovsky. He died in Europe, and Fenia and her sisters moved to Argentina. She eventually settled in Buenos Aires where she married Nicolas Repetto.

Fenia co-founded the Socialist Women's Center in 1920, and the Trade Union of Women, with her sisters and Gabriela Laperriere and Rachel Messina. She participated in the first strikes of the workers and the trade union organization of workers in different industries, such as telephone, textiles, trade, and factories, contributing to enact laws for making Sunday a day of rest. She also denounced labor exploitation of minors, poor sanitary conditions in factories, and long working hours.
Just one of many examples of Jewish Latin women making a difference!
